Dear members of the Lyric Theatre community,

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Bob Bachelor, Founder, and Musical and Artistic Director of The Lyric Theatre Singers. Bob’s vision and leadership are at the very heart of Lyric. Through his passion for music and storytelling, he built not only an ensemble, but a true community, one rooted in artistic excellence, collaboration, and care. For over three decades, he shaped the sound, spirit, and very fabric of Lyric, inspiring generations of singers and audiences alike.

As Musical and Artistic Director, Bob brought dedication, creativity, and integrity to every performance, but most importantly to every rehearsal. His ability to bring out the best in those around him, combined with his deep commitment to music, left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of working with him at Lyric and beyond. His legacy is woven into every note ever sung and every connection formed within Lyric.

Bob will be remembered not only for his extraordinary contributions to The Lyric Theatre, but also for his warmth, mentorship, and unwavering belief in the power of community through music.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Bob’s husband Jacques, to his family, friends, and all members of the Lyric community, Québec choral world and Montreal theatre scene who were touched by his life and work. On behalf of the Lyric Theatre Board of Directors and the entire Lyric family, we send our deepest sympathies to all affected by this great loss.

After many discussions and careful consideration, the Board of Directors, along with the commitment of the performing members of The Lyric Theatre Singers, have decided to move forward with the Broadway with Love revue which is set to run June 11 to 13. Bob poured an incredible amount of work and love into this show to bring it to where it stands today. With the help of a few of his key and trusted longtime artistic collaborators who have agreed to lead the Singers in these unprecedented times, we have full confidence that the group will carry and honour Bob’s vision for Broadway with Love forward. Additional information will follow in the days to come.
